Everyone may experience anxiety symptoms at certain moments in their life and this is normal. For those who struggle with generalized anxiety disorder, their feelings of anxiety are constant and often get in the way of daily life. Our anxiety disorder treatment center can help those who are suffering recover to live a happier life, worry-free.
Like other mental health problems, anxiety comes in various forms. We will assess each patient to find out which anxiety disorder they are dealing with to make sure treatment is tailored to their specific disorder. Learn more about the various anxiety disorders below:
Generalized Anxiety Disorder
This specific disorder can develop as early as childhood and progress into adulthood. Individuals will feel excessive anxiousness that often interferes with their day to day life.
Panic disorder occurs when individuals experience sudden attacks of extreme nervousness or fear also known as a panic attack. Panic attacks occur over small things that can become exaggerated into daily stress. Attacks can cause increased heart rate and sweating which causes more fear of another panic attack.
When someone has a phobia, they experience intense fear of a specific situation or object. This fear is unrealistic in the sense that it doesn’t impose a real threat to the person, but in their mind it does. Phobias can cause long-term anxiety and fear leading to panic attacks and other symptoms.
Social Anxiety Disorder
Those who struggle with social anxiety disorder have a fear of being judged by others to the point where they are afraid to participate in social gatherings. This can also be called social phobia. Social anxiety can cause hardships with relationships and lead to panic attacks during social situations.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is present in those who have experienced a traumatic event(s) that leads to on-going fear and trauma. PTSD can cause severe panic attacks and also interfere with daily life.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) can be defined as an anxiety disorder where individuals struggle with different thoughts and fears that will lead them to perform repeat behaviors. An example would be someone who has an intense fear of germs causing them to consistently wash their hands in worry that the germs will lead to contamination.
